It all began back in high school, although neither of us could have imagined then just how beautifully God would write our love story. We first crossed paths in cooking class during our senior year. On the first day, the teacher called roll and said, “Jose Avila.” I remember thinking, Who is Jose Avila? I thought I knew everyone in our school! But Jose was a mystery because he’d spent the whole first week of school on a beach in Mexico. When he finally walked into class 3 weeks later, he was literally glowing, sun-kissed and smiling so brightly I couldn’t help but notice him. A few months later, we ended up working side by side on a class project, wiping down the counters together. When I looked up and caught his shy smile, something just clicked. A mutual friend told me he was quiet but so funny and I started to notice him everywhere. Eventually, he sent me a DM asking me on our first date. I said no , at first. Because I wanted to know him more. That same night, we ended up on a FaceTime call that lasted all night. We couldn’t stop talking, and we haven’t stopped since. But the truth is, our real love story didn’t begin until we met our Lord Jesus Christ. Even though we didn’t know it at the time, God was always surrounding our relationship, gently guiding us toward Him and each other. About two years ago, Jose felt called to bring God into our relationship. He led us both back to Christ and through him, I found my faith too. We became believers together, and growing in faith side by side changed everything. Jose helped guide me to become rooted in Christ’s love. With lots of prayer and faith not only did we change personally but our entire relationship changed. Today, we know without a doubt that Jesus is the center of our relationship. Loving Him first taught us what it truly means to love each other, selflessly, joyfully, and with a purpose bigger than ourselves. Our story isn’t just about two high school kids falling in love... it’s about finding the One who holds it all together. We thank God every day for writing our story far better than we ever could have. We can’t wait to continue it as husband and wife, with Christ always at the center of our hearts and our home.
