Our next adventure

The ones written in Spanish were by Carlos, the ones written in English were by Marissa. Ask them each what they said about their story, or google translate it! Marissa liked Carlos on Hinge while learning Spanish in Costa Rica. Even though Carlos wanted to take a break from the dating app, he decided to wait and see how it played out. Originally, he thought she might just be looking for a Spanish teacher. Marissa did originally think that not only was Carlos very handsome, funny and enjoyable to talk to, he might also be able to help her with her Spanish. Four years later and Marissa's Spanish is worse than when they first met.

Once again, Carlos must have really liked Marissa, because Marissa set the first date at Grounds For Sculpture. A beautiful park, in a not so beautiful area. Carlos wondered if this was a set up for something bad. Thankfully, Carlos found the park and realized it was not, and the date lasted 12 hours.

Carlos was unsure whether to ask before or after his two week planned Peru trip with his parents. He finally asked before Peru when he realized at work he had been referring to her as his girlfriend for a few days anyway.

Carlos LOVES aquariums. So much so that Marissa realized this within the first four weeks of them dating, and she took him to the Baltimore Aquarium for his birthday when he got back from Peru. This is where they took their first picture as a couple.

Marissa realized Carlos had never been to Disney World. And she was starting medical school soon, so they booked a trip to Disney, and Carlos spent the whole time not smiling. Marissa thought he hated it. After asking him constantly if he was having fun, Carlos finally told her on the plane ride home that it was one of his favorite vacations. Turns out he just has resting bitch face. Even in the happiest place on earth.

As it always does, the travel bug hit Marissa. She booked tickets to Mexico. They had an amazing time, and since Mexico, they have visited the DR, Peru, and Italy. Luckily Carlos actually enjoys traveling and has become more expressive in his joy.

Carlos planned it for Marissa's favorite spot in Italy; Florence. He hired a photographer, and picked one of the biggest tourist site in Florence. As a man who is scared of public attention on him, this was not ideal. He was nervous and gave a speech which sounded like a break up, forgot to get on one knee, and put the ring on the wrong finger and upside down. She still said yes.

They got married on August 17th, 2024 in a tiny civil ceremony with just their parents and Marissa's grandparents. Now they are ready for a reception involving everyone they care about and a tropical island!
