Jen and Matt met at the University of Georgia as they were starting out in their school of education program. That year, they started in the same cohort taking all their classes together. In class one day while talking they realized they lived in the same old apartment building in downtown Athens. Matt lived right above Jen, just up the stairs. They started to hang out and eat dinner together most nights at Matt’s apartment. Matt met Jen’s pug, Rosie and couldn’t get enough of the pug love. It didn’t take long to become close friends. One of their first outings together was to the illustrious downtown Waffle House. Matt told Jen that coffee was for the elderly when she ordered a cup. Little did he know he’d become just as big of a coffee drinker as she was. Their junior year, they decided to try the whole dating thing. They could be spotted around Athens at places like the Georgia Theater, the 40 Watt, The Grill, Cutter’s Pub and of course, Sanford Stadium. They student taught together at the same elementary school, and after graduation had some hard decisions to make. They decided Athens was the place for them to be, and Matt began to work on his masters in early childhood education while Jen got her first job teaching 2nd grade. They settled in to a new phase of life, and one December day Matt asked Jen to marry him at Cine, their favorite indie movie theater. Jen was shocked, but couldn’t have been happier to say yes. Now they are preparing for a fun filled life together as married Athenians.
