I think we both started to fall for each other at the same time. We spent some time taking things slow early on, but I already knew she was who I wanted. I wanted to plan a date for her that was the true American experience. I decided taking her to the drive-in was the perfect idea. It was a muggy, mid-July evening, just before dusk. We pulled in through the gravel parking lot and approached the ticket booth. It's an all-cash business, so we got our tickets and found a perfect spot in the middle. I remember walking up to the concession stand to get myself a hot dog (obviously) and her some fries (also obviously). I was alone in line, and I remember feeling really excited to continue spending time with her, but I was also really nervous that I was going to mess things up. I got our food and walked back to the car where she was waiting for me. The sun started going down, so the movie was about to start. I'm pretty sure they were playing the new Minions movie, but I really did not care about the movie at that point. I had the back of my car open with sheets/blankets down in the back. It wasn't that comfortable, but it got the job done just fine. I ended up sneaking in a cooler with a couple drinks for us, and I packed this really dark stout beer. Almost immediately, I spilled it on both of us, and we just laughed really hard about it and moved on. We spent most of the time talking and messing with each other as always. I remember looking at her brown eyes in the back of my car at that moment. I wanted to tell her I loved her, but I'm pretty sure I said something along the lines of "I really like you a lot." She smiled and said she felt the same way. It made me really happy, but I also was trying to play it cool because she had gotten out of a relationship before she came to the US, so I wasn't trying to put any pressure on her. But I knew then that I loved her and wanted to be with her. Fast forward a couple weeks, and we're at my place, and she basically tells me she's waiting on me to ask her to be my girlfriend. Then, I got my chance to say I love you. She ended up telling me that she felt the same in that moment at the drive-in. I guess things always work out the way they're supposed to.
