Legend of Multnomah Falls: According to the Wasco legend, Chief Multnomah had a beautiful daughter who he was trying to find the best match for her to marry. After a long search, he decided that the most fit man for his daughter to marry was a young chief from a neighboring tribe. The Chief's daughter quickly fell in love with her husband. Soon after, a sickness befell the village, killing many tribe members. A medicine man gave the message that the maiden of a chief must be willingly sacrificed to save the people. The Chief's daughter bravely sacrificed herself by stepping off the peak of the fall.
