Baker City offers tons of outdoor recreational opportunities year round. In the summer, mountain lakes in the Elkhorn Mountains are great for hiking swimming and fishing. The Powder River flows right through town and is great if you need to cool off, while upper sections towards Sumpter, OR and Phillips Lake can be good fishing, too. For those with a 4WD vehicle, driving up to Marble Creek Pass to hike the Elkhorn Crest Trail is a great way to spend the day.
