Brett and I met back in 2011 which was our junior year of high school. As we went off to college, we both chose to attend Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas... Wreck 'em!!! Fast forward to the spring of 2016, we suddenly were becoming very close. By my 21st birthday in May of 2016 I was telling all of my friends that he was my boyfriend! (This wasn't exactly official, but it felt like it was!) The next day we went on a river trip with some friends...when Brett decided to ask "What are we?" To which I responded, "We're dating!" So, I guess I didn't really give him a choice, but he didn't hesitate either! ;) After dating for nearly 18 months, Brett decided to pop the question! We were out in Colorado City, Texas at his family farm. I was there for a weekend to "unplug". We were going to attend some of his family-friend's wedding shower in town...there was a fake invitation and everything...and on our way there we had to run by the golf course and turn off some sprinklers. We stopped off at the first tee box and began walking out toward these huge, beautiful rocks that overlook the creek and the entire course. He told me a few sweet things, but the most important thing he said to me was, "Avary, we have been through a lot this summer and it is amazing that this place exhibits God's beauty so well, but also in beautiful places tragedy can happen. I want to be there with you through those times." This was the same place his parents got engaged! Long story short, I was so surprised! The whole evening was a spectacular celebration with friends and family. The best is yet to come.....
