Ava and I first met back in 8th grade through our sisters, who were friends and very eager to introduce their two curly-haired younger siblings. It was about as awkward as you’d imagine, me meeting a pretty girl because my older sister insisted, but I guess I did something right seeing where we are now! Ava transferred to Grapevine Faith freshman year, and that’s when our friendship really began. Before sophomore year, we went on a school trip to Washington, D.C., and I had my first “wow” moment with Ava when we shared a pint of Ben & Jerry’s Phish Food ice cream. Something about that moment made me realize I really wanted to be friends with this girl. Later that year, I took Ava to homecoming, and from then on our friendship took off. Throughout our junior year, we spent tons of time together, and somewhere along the way, I started to catch feelings. I took Ava to prom junior year, but by the end of that summer, I’d finally worked up the courage to ask her out on a real date. I saw her love for the Lord, compassion, joy, and intentionality and knew that she was someone I wanted to pursue as more than just a friend. She was ecstatic when she said yes to our first date, and from that day on, it was evident that the Lord kept leading us closer together. As we dated through senior year, we cheered each other on at our games and graduated side by side. Come fall 2022, we both ended up at Texas A&M, even though it wasn't either of our first choices, it turned out to be exactly where we were meant to be. Since moving to College Station, we’ve both grown so much. We have met some lifelong friends and have been surrounded by a community that has encouraged and prayed for us from the very beginning. A&M has been a huge part of our story and it has given us the opportunity to experience and create so many memories. I proposed to Ava on July 12th, 2025, at the Crescent Court Hotel in Dallas. That morning, we went to brunch and did some window shopping before I dropped her off at her sister’s house where Ava was completely unaware of what was coming. She thought she was heading to dinner with her family at a restaurant near the hotel, but when she walked through the courtyard, there I was waiting. She said “yes” with the biggest, most radiant smile I’ve ever seen. We celebrated first with our families, then had dinner with just the two of us, and finally ended the night surrounded by our friends and loved ones. It was truly the best day of my life, and I know Ava would say the same. We are so excited for the next step in our relationship, and the life we are going to build together. We know that the Lord has been writing our story from the start and we are going to trust Him completely through this new and exciting season. We are so grateful to have the love and support of our family and friends as we begin the rest of our lives together! - Davis
