We met at the beginning of our freshman year of high school—both young, nervous, and unsure of what the next four years would bring. What began as a simple friendship grew slowly: quick hellos in the hallway, small conversations during class, and eventually FaceTime calls that lasted until midnight, with Chase stealing glances at Ava from across the classroom. Many people say COVID was the worst time of their lives, but for us, it became the start of something unforgettable. Without it, we may have never spent that night together before school let out for what was supposed to be “two weeks.” On March 22nd, in the midst of the pandemic, Chase asked Ava to be his girlfriend. On October 11th, he asked her to be his wife—and on October 10th, they will say “I do.”
