How We Met

Spring 2018

Daniel and I met in our Bachelor's program at Western Washington University. I was one of only two girls accepted into the Industrial Design program, and I was detesting the idea of being in a class with ten guys. I pictured them all being boisterous, loud, and obnoxious - and I wasn't wrong. Daniel, being one of the boys, was a-l-l of these things. He talked over me in class, made friends easily with the other bros, and seemed sure that he knew better than me in almost any design scenario. I would get so frustrated with him and argue with him in any group project we were paired in, mostly because he was often right. We were like two great lawyers arguing a monumental case, except we were arguing about design renderings and 3d models. Eventually I softened up to him and realized my feelings of resentment had blossomed into something else entirely - love. The more that I talked with Daniel, the more I learned about him - like, for example, how he has an infectiously good attitude (most of the time) and seems to get along with anybody. I started to see his stubbornness as conviction, his loudness as passion, and his boisterousness as the life of the party. He was fun to be around, and had an amazing ability to listen, which not many men have nowadays. Before I knew it, we started spending most of our days together. I met his family, he met mine. We became roommates in our rental apartment. We got a dog together. All that's left now is sealing the deal at our upcoming wedding!

The Proposal

When in Greece...

After plenty of subtle hints and reminders, Daniel finally proposed to me when we went on vacation together during the summer of 2022. After a grueling 14 hours of travel, we made it to Athens, Greece where we took a cab to my parent's Airbnb. Everyone made me wake up bright and early that morning to go up to the Acropolis, and I was livid. The Parthenon had been standing for thousands of years, couldn't it just wait a few more hours for my precious sleep? Eventually we made it up there, and sat down in front of the ancient ruin for a break. It was right then and there that Daniel got down on one knee, and proposed to me in front of all of those people! I said yes, of course and we celebrated the rest of the day.
