Travel Info

The Wedding Website of Autumn Barton and Benjamin Joachim
~~~About Saylita~~~ Sayulita is a small beach-town on the Pacific coast of Mexico, in the state of Nayarit. A charming fishing village, Sayulita is a hidden gem with picturesque beaches, charming restaurants and great food. Unlike some other Mexican towns, tourists mingle with locals in a relaxed atmosphere, without the hustle and bustle of major touristy resorts. ~~~Where is Sayulita~~~ It is located an hour northwest of Puerto Vallarta where you will fly in (Airport Code: PVR). Puerto Vallarta is a popular vacation destination, so it’s usually easy to get decent airfare from anywhere in the US or Mexico. Look at the travel info below! Please do review our Where To Stay page for Lodging: We highly recommend you stay in Sayulita and not in neighboring towns like Punta Mita or San Marcos! ~~~Travel~~~ Below we are sharing several options for traveling to Sayulita from the Puerto Vallarta Airport.
Travel Note
Uber
We recommend Uber for most guests. You will get a cheaper rate with Ubers than taxis, but they can be a bit unreliable in Puerto Vallarta in terms of availability. You will have more success meeting up with your Uber driver if you exit the airport, walk out of the parking lot, and cross over the pedestrian bridge to get picked up near the bus stop.
Travel Note
Taxis from Airport
You might be paying double if you get a taxi right at the airport, but if you go over the pedestrian bridge and flag one down, it should cost about 700-1000 pesos ($35-50 one-way). Be sure to negotiate the rate before you get into the taxi to avoid any unpleasant surprises at dropoff.
Rental Car
Hertz
If you’re staying in Sayulita, this might be a bit of an overkill, given that it’s a tiny, super walkable town, with virtually no parking. If, however, you’re interested in exploring the neighboring towns, like San Pancho, getting a rental car can be useful. Keep in mind: There’s a few things about driving in Puerto Vallarta that might be unfamiliar to American drivers (like turning left from the right lane), but otherwise, it’s not challenging or scary to drive around here. When you arrive at PVR Airport, there will be employees from Hertz near the airport exit who can help you board a quick shuttle to the Hertz office (2-mins from airport). Almost everyone there speaks English, but a little Spanish goes a long way! Make sure to ask them for directions on returning the car before you head to Sayulita.
Travel Note
BUS
This is the absolute cheapest (46 pesos or about $2.50) but slowest way to get to Sayulita (about two hours or so). To get to the bus station from the airport, cross over the highway using the pedestrian bridge leading out from the parking lot and look out for a green and white bus that says “COMPOSTELA”, which should come every 20 minutes or so. ***Be sure to check that “Sayulita” is written on the windshield, because not all COMPOSTELA busses go there!***
