The Proposal

The Infamous Boat Seat

At the time of our proposal, Tristan and I had been together for 2 and a half years. The summer of 2016 my family had planned a beach vacation. Tristan just had just started a new job and couldn't get away from work to join. Well, Day 1 of our vacation my mother informs everyone that we would be having family pictures that afternoon. Odd, because we had never done family pictures on any vacation. Oh well. We began to get ready and I could tell something was going on, but couldn't get my finger on it. My father went on and made his way to the location while the rest of us finished getting ready. As you can imagine, a Saturday afternoon in June on the beach wasn't exactly cool, so to be told that we had to walk a decent length to out photo shoot location was a sweat session guarantee. One mile later, we walked up to this gorgeous boardwalk. I see my dad siting underneath an overhang, and then suddenly, Tristan popped up on the other side of him with a handful of flowers and a small box in hand. Instantly, I knew! Tears came streaming down my face as he made his way to me. He walked up to me, grabbing both my hands, confessed his intentions, and eventually, popped the big question. Through the tears, I scream YES! and embraced my now fiancé like I never had before. Surrounded by the people that loved us in a place that was so beautiful was perfect. Now for the tagline. Summer and I were driving early that morning in separate vehicles and I, in the lead vehicle, had to swerve quickly on the interstate to avoid a large object. Summer, behind me, had to swerve even faster. Unfortunately, the vehicle behind her wasn't as lucky and collided with the object head on. Fast forward to our post-proposal dinner I found out it was Tristan and his family in that vehicle! They had stayed at a hotel and unintentionally exited at the same time we were passing by. The large object? A BOAT SEAT. Timing sure can be a funny thing.
