No visit to Hot Springs would be complete without a visit to the Hot Springs National Park. Start off at the Fordyce Bathhouse and get transported back into the days of medicinal healing via water from the natural hot springs. Once you finish up here, make sure to check out the surrounding bathhouses which have been modernized inside for different unique purposes. Across the street, you can see many unique local shops and make sure to walk down to the Arlington Hotel where Al Capone once held a permanent reservation for his travels. As you explore downtown, take note of the local speakeasies like The Ohio Club and Rolando’s — this place played a very interesting role during prohibition.
Hike up or drive up to the Hot Springs Mountain Tower and take in the beauty of the Ouachita Mountains. Tickets are $13 and well worth the trip.
Swing by Oaklawn Racing & Gaming to watch the horses run and waste (or invest) a couple dollars on the penny slots.
