How We Met

5.25.15

Austin noticed Cassie when they would pass on the sidewalk on Drury's campus in the spring semester of 2015. Cassie didn't notice Austin. Then one day Austin said "hi" as he rode his bike past Cassie. Cassie thought there was something endearing about Austin, but she didn't know who this mystery guy was. Austin saw Cassie pop up as a suggested friend on Facebook, and worked up the courage to add her as a friend. Cassie saw the friend request, but didn't have the chance to accept before Austin got nervous and cancelled the request! Cassie was onto him. A full month later Austin worked up the courage to send another friend request. Cassie accepted. Austin liked every single one of Cassie's posts, and still just said "hi" when he'd pass her on campus. Then ANOTHER full month later he *finally* sent her a message. After chatting for about a week, Cassie agreed to officially meet (even though Austin was bald at the time). Cassie picked Austin up for their first date. They went to Lowe's (romantic) where they bought a cactus named Rex, and then they went back to Austin's place and watched Inception. Austin thought Cassie was a little weird and Cassie thought Austin was a little weird, but they were both into it.

The Proposal

1.20.19

At around 11:00pm Austin and Cassie packed up the car with hot cocoa, snacks, and Birdie! They drove 30 minutes into the mountains planning on heading up to Shenandoah National Park to watch the total lunar eclipse. Austin held Cassie's hand the whole drive and played some Lord Huron to really set the mood. Unfortunately the park roads were closed, so Austin decided to head back down the highway and stopped at a scenic overlook. There were many other cars parked there to watch the eclipse. At this point Cassie was almost certain Austin wasn't going to propose because things weren't going 100% according to plan and the wind was making the already frigid 20 degree temperature almost unbearable. But just as the sun, earth, and moon were almost totally aligned Austin embraced Cassie and told her how much he loved her and how perfect the night was. Cassie cried. Then Austin got down on one knee and asked Cassie to marry him. Cassie said YES. Austin cried (a little). And then they celebrated with a warm drive home (intermittent crying), lots of hugging, and a midnight snack while watching South Park to cap off a perfect night.
