How We Met

9.8.18

Emily was in Houston, TX and William was in Martinsburg, WV. How did they happen? Twas an early football season game in College Station where Clemson was playing Texas A&M. William, being an avid Clemson fan/Alumnus, made the trek to Austin to visit with Drew (one of Emily's long-time friends, who William met at Clemson) and then head to College Station for the weekend. After hours of tailgating and exploring College Station, the start of the game was nearing and Drew had been trying to get ahold of Emily to stop by our tailgate because he "had a friend that she had to meet". She eventually stopped by, but William wasn't back to the tailgate from downtown yet. Luckily for William, Drew took this opportunity to catch up and stall because Emily had to meet "Willard". William finally made it back to the tailgate and had only a few minutes to meet Emily and leave an unforgettable impression. He did just that by being gracefully awkward and complimenting her maroon/gold blouse. The game was about to start so the two went their separate ways. William, feeling like he missed an opportunity to connect further with a beautiful and charming girl, asked Drew for Emily's number. Text sent out to Emily, "Hey what's up? This is William, it was great meeting you yesterday!". Emily responds, "William who?". William forgot that to others his name is "Willard". Days, weeks, then months go by where Emily and William are talking everyday, getting to know each other. William moves to Greenville, SC and it gets to the point where they both decide they need to meet up or cut ties if this wasn't going to go anywhere. Emily grew up visiting around Asheville, NC and that was right up the road from Greenville, so they decided on a long weekend of brewery hopping and hiking in the mountains. The weekend went great, with many fun/exciting memories, William even left his credit card at Sierra Nevada so Emily got to pay for a few meals! Weekend finishes up and they go back to their separate cities, but now they start planning their next trip to see each other. This time to Estes Park in Colorado 2 months after Asheville. What an epic trip that was, with long, beautiful hikes and getting to know each other more. Trips started becoming more frequent, once a month now. Then Covid hit and everyone's way of life changed. Travel to visit each other became very difficult. For us though, this was a blessing in disguise because Emily was 100% working from home so she was able to visit for longer periods of time. She eventually made a huge, life-changing decision to go way out of her comfort zone and move to Greenville to see if the two could actually live in the same city. They could and eventually they moved in together! 3 years later and they've built a life together and can't wait to celebrate the start of their next chapter with their closest friends and family!

For all the days along the way
