Our story begins when we matched on Hinge in November of 2020. At this time, I (McKenna) was in grad school at TCU in Fort Worth and Austin was adulting in Dallas. 5 months later, in March of 2021, I got a job offer that would require moving to Austin (the city), about 3 hours south of Dallas. I took the job, knowing I would have to move but also knowing I had 5 months to figure out just how serious Austin (the person) and I were. Fast forward to a random Friday in spring of 2021. Those of you who know Austin know he's not one for big, romantic gestures, so when he planned a big, romantic date night, I got suspicious that he would ask me to "officially" be his girlfriend. All throughout dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Smoky Rose, I was texting my friends telling them that this would be the "big day." After dinner, Austin took me for a walk around the local lake, White Rock Lake, to watch the sunset. The sun went down, and we walked back to his car to end the night. He did NOT ask me to be his girlfriend that night and thought it was hilarious (in hindsight) that I thought he was going to. He did eventually ask me to be his girlfriend, and we decided that we would just “see where things went” after I moved to Austin (the city). Obviously, things went well, and about 6 months after I moved, we decided that I would move back up to Dallas at the end of my 12-month apartment lease. I moved back up to Dallas in August of 2022 and told Austin that he had 12 months to propose. The clock started ticking! Fast forward to the beginning of August 2023. Austin asked me if I wanted to go to Smoky Rose for dinner that week. I agreed, and he made a reservation for Friday evening. On Friday morning, after he was oddly frazzled about my decision to work from home that day, he asked if I wanted to go for a walk at White Rock Lake before dinner. (Bear in mind that it was over 100°F.) I agreed but started to get suspicious. Sound familiar? Austin started getting ready for our little date night and put on a nice polo and a pair of slacks (i.e., full-length pants). I started to get more suspicious. Who wears long pants to go for a walk in Texas in August? We drove to White Rock Lake and walked for about 5 minutes before I started sweating profusely and sat down on a nearby bench. Lo and behold, Austin proposed! And redeemed himself for the same date night over 2 years prior where he DIDN’T ask me any important questions. That brings us to today—we are now planning our wedding, and we hope you can join us for the celebration!
