As told by Austin: For months, my dad kept telling me about a new school counseling intern at the high school he works at who he wanted to introduce me to. He spoke about how great she was, how they had developed a good working friendship and that she was extremely confident, kind and the type of person you couldn’t help but be drawn to. At the time I wasn't exactly crazy about the idea of my dad setting me up with one of his co-workers. He dropped the subject for a while, but the man is nothing if not persistent… His next pitch was focused around how both of her parents attended the same small Bay Area college as myself. If you’re familiar with Menlo College, then you understand how extraordinary of a coincidence that is. Not only that, but her dad also played football there like myself. Regardless of these wild developments, I still was hesitant to meet this girl. But he persisted as he does, and one day without any notice he invited her over for a bbq at our house. We hung out the whole time and got to know each other and showed genuine interest, but I think we both very much felt put on the spot. Like the whole party was watching us saying “will they, won’t they..." About two weeks after we met, Carlyn slid into my instagram DM's and asked if I'd like to grab a drink, and I happily agreed. On our first date I sat there waiting for Carlyn to get there. She was fashionably late and I still give her a hard time for it today. It was the first time that we truly had one on one time together without being under a microscope. Five hours later of non stop conversation, we officially had our first date. We haven't left each other’s side ever since. It may have not been the most conventional way of meeting but in hindsight I wouldn’t have had it happen in any other way. I love our story and can’t wait to continue to build it with my best friend and love of my life.
