A & A

Austin was a friend of my roommate in college. Before I met my group of friends, my roommate kindly invited me out to dinner for Mexican food. Austin and I sat on separate ends of the table, and I don't think we even spoke a word to each other after saying hi. Fast forward 3 years, Austin and I found each other again on Tinder. Austin picked me up at my apartment that was 2 minutes from Seven Leguas, the Mexican restaurant where we had our first date. We chatted over chips and salsa. I listened to him talk about corn, and he listened to me talk about nursing school. Did I mention he had a mustache and wore a cowboy hat? After the date, he told me that there was a baby calf at the ranch he worked at that needed to be fed. He asked me if I wanted to come, and of course I said yes. I slipped into his roommate's size 12 adidas slides and we walked outside to Nugget, and Austin taught me how to bottle feed her. Talk about hook, line, and sinker! It was March of 2020 with COVID at its peak and a citywide curfew set by the Huntsville police department. Austin and I both went home for Spring Break and talked almost nonstop. When Spring Break was over, Sam Houston State University announced "Spring Break 2.0" which meant classes were canceled the week after the real Spring Break for infection control purposes. My nursing school curriculum was moved online for the rest of the semester, which meant I had more time to spend with Mr. Cowboy Hat and the baby goats and calves at the ranch. The rest is history!
