Things To Do

One of our first dates was spent exploring Hood River and it's become one of our favorite day-trips from Portland. Excited to share some of our favorites in the area!

Food

- Solstice Pizza: Right on the river, this wood fired pizza spot is perfect for a lunch or dinner. Try the Cherry Girl pizza (a Rachel Tolkinen recommendation, now our staple order) and don't skip on the brussel sprouts! - Doppio Coffee: Grab a coffee or a casual lunch at this little downtown Hood River gem.

Hiking

- Hamilton Mountain: This is a 5.4 mile out and back hike on the Washington side of the Columbia River. With about 2,000 ft elevation gain, this is a challenging yet rewarding hike including 2 waterfalls and breathtaking views of the Gorge. - Memaloose Hills: This 2.8 mile loop is a moderate walk with only 600 ft of elevation gain. Perfect for those wanting a relaxing hike with rolling hills and terrific view. - Beacon Rock Trail: Moderate 1.8 mile (round trip) paved hike up the side of the core of an ancient extinct volcano. The trail has a 750 ft elevation gain with switchbacks that create a gradual incline, allowing people of all ages and experience levels to hike it.

Sightseeing

- Crown Point Vista House: Enjoy a bird's-eye view of the Columbia River from this restored 100-year-old observatory. - Timberline Lodge: Built in 1937, this is a historic, architecturally significant hotel and ski resort on the slopes of Mount Hood. It's a National Historic Landmark and a fun place to sightsee, hike, or grab lunch. Fun Fact: The outdoor scenes of The Shining we filmed at this lodge! - Waterfalls: The Waterfall Corridor in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area is home to dozens of magical waterfalls, including well known one's like Multnomah Falls and Horsetail Falls. Head down the Historic Columbia River Highway via car or shuttle - many waterfalls are just a short walk from their parking lots along the highway. Check out the link below for more info!

Wine

Below are a few recommendations for wineries and tasting rooms in the region and their distances from downtown Hood River: -Upsidedown Wine (Downtown) -Phelps Creek Tasting Room (5 min) -Cerulean Wine Tasting Room (Downtown) On a clear day, these two have breathtaking views of Mt. Hood & Mt. Adams: -Mt Hood Winery (8 min) -Stave & Stone Winery (13 min)

Golf

-Hood River Golf & Country Club - Built in 1923, this course is historic and unique! Affordable, close by (12 min from Hood River), with incredible views of Mt. Hood via the Front 9 - this course is our go-to when in the area. -Indian Creek Golf Course - Just 8 min from downtown Hood River, surrounded by wineries and orchards, and views of BOTH Mt. Adams and Mt. Hood throughout the entire course. -Elk Ridge Golf Course - About 25 min from Hood River in Washington is this beautiful, hilly, links-style course with incredible views of the Columbia River Gorge. Worth the extra drive!
