Austen Prater

and

Saxon Prater

September 16, 2023

Knoxville, TN

How They Met

Austen and Saxon met the traditional way, connecting on Hinge from across the country (swoon). It was the height of the pandemic, and both had suffered setbacks in love. But it was also a time of transition and opportunity, as they had each begun new lives and careers in Nashville. Conversations flowed easily and naturally right away, and within days, they held multi-hour phone conversations. They admired each other’s professional drive and frankly bizarre senses of humor. Austen was attracted to Saxon’s voice and banter. Saxon loved Austen’s heart and fiery streak.

Their First Date

After Austen flew back to Nashville from her hometown, they had their first in-person date. Given the pandemic, they met at Austen’s house for tacos and drinks. They both felt at ease discussing everything from their work and hobbies to their dreams. The customary sparks flew. Since they ate outside, so did the flies. Austen often outs Saxon for spilling tacos on his shirt that night. Saxon often downplays it, saying at least his clumsiness was charming enough for Austen to feel comfortable. One thing is certain - Austen was grateful she hadn’t invited a lunatic to her house.

Their Time Together

The next couple of years flew by. They developed small traditions with each other and their dogs, Nova and Pepper (the babies). Highlights include coffee and crepe dates, overly competitive puzzling, unlimited movie and Taco Bell excursions, and a host of silly inside jokes they won’t bore you with here. Equally hungry for life, they’ve traveled, marathon trained together, tackled new hobbies, driven their careers forward, and supported each other each step of the way. They count themselves fortunate that their complementary qualities help push them both to grow.

The Proposal

Over time it became clear that they wanted to grow together for the rest of their lives. So, when Saxon decided to propose, the only question was when and where. He started shopping for rings and planning their upcoming trip to her hometown. Hoping to surprise her, he had the notion of proposing with her closest friends and family present and the backdrop of the sun setting on the waters of the Pacific. However, when Austen found her perfect engagement ring in California, Saxon knew he had to pivot. He ordered it, hoping the ring would beat the holiday rush and arrive quickly enough for him to sign for it covertly. When it didn’t, he faced an unfortunate problem. While Saxon worked in-office, Austen would need to sign for two packages, the ring and her Christmas gift. She’d know it was coming, even if he swapped the package with something else. Saxon decided to embrace the shipping snafu and do something more intimate and authentic to us. He bought flowers, wine, and dessert for their holiday celebration. He also bought tacos for a private dinner at home akin to their first date. After proposing, Saxon didn’t have to wonder whether he’d made the right call. Austen had “coincidently” polished her nails that day.

The Next Step

Now they’ve arrived at today, as they prep for their wedding. They can’t wait to celebrate with you and appreciate all the love and support you’ve given them through the years.
