We both happened to be in Bath at the start of the new year, and Mr. E. was in need of a wife at the vicarage in Highbury, and of course was in search of one. I (Ms. Hawkins) was so very displeased to be away from my beloved home which has in recent years been Maple Grove that I was altogether absolutely miserable in Bath. I happened to be at one of the balls in Bath and Mr. E. was there as well and naturally I was skulking about in the corner pondering over the wonderful gardens and beautiful rooms that the Maple Grove Estate offers, just miserably longing to return, when Mr. E. set eyes on me and became determined that a dance would cheer my spirits. So of course he asked and I naturally obliged, for although I was miserable I absolutely loathe behaving miserably and souring the moods of all around me. We danced and had a wonderful time and after a few weeks we began to make preparations to marry (Mr. E. really is such a romantic and wanted to be married right after he saw the beauty of Maple Grove!).
Ah! there is nothing like staying at home for real comfort. Nobody can be more devoted to home than I am. I was quite a proverb for it at Maple Grove. Many a time has Selina said, when she has been going to Bristol she said so; and yet I am no advocate for entire seclusion. I think, on the contrary, when people shut themselves up entirely from society, it is a very bad thing; and that it is much more advisable to mix in the world in a proper degree, without living in it either too much or too little.
Oh yes he most certainly is. He has often said that "The vicarage at Highbury wants nothing more than a dignified, elegant, well bred woman which bring the parish and social life at Highbury to complete perfection." He does speak in the most marvelous of ways and it is thrilling to realize he has found this woman in Ms. Hawkins.
Well that would truly be so tragic and Mr. E. and I will be absolutely dejected the entire time if any of our beloved guests are unable to attend our special day. However, if such an event does occur we simply insist that you come visit us at Maple Grove within the next few weeks before we go off to Highbury, which will soon become the most beloved place in the world to me as it is the home of my soon to be darling husband and my own future residence.
For all those that are so wonderfully generous enough to purchase gifts on our behalf please send them to the Vicarage at Highbury, as that will become our domain.
