Ty and I met at the Tuacahn Box Office at Tuacahn Center for the Arts in Ivins, Utah. I had been working there for almost a year and Tyler had just returned from his mission when he came to work. Needless to say, I was totally geeking out that there was a cute RM at work, especially considering I was used to working with primarily women my mom's age and older. Tyler is quiet, and I am not. So, of course, I made it my mission to get him out of his shell. I started talking to him and one day while we were talking at work he mentioned he had show tickets and needed to find a date. My immediate response was "I'll go!" I was a little embarrassed afterward, worried that I sounded too eager. But, there was no going back. Ty later told me that he mentioned it on purpose because subconsciously he was hoping I would go with him. Thank goodness for that! When the day of the show finally came, it was so much fun. We got Chick-fil-A and ate at Dixie Rock. We also took some fun photos at a mural just off the Boulevard before going to Mary Poppins. We still talk about how it was one of the best dates we have ever been on.
Before we got engaged, we hadn’t seen each other for a couple of days. I was working at the Dicken’s festival and with both of us at school, our schedules didn’t line up. Tyler texted me the day before our engagement and said “Hmmm, I think that it has been a couple of days since I last saw you, and that’s not good…..So, I am inviting you to go on an early morning hike with me tomorrow, do you accept?” Now, this was suspicious for a couple of reasons: 1. I hate getting up early. 2. Tyler hates the cold. So, an early morning hike, which is a combination of two things we both don’t particularly enjoy, was a bit suspicious to me. But! I played along. He picked me up at about 6:30 a.m. the following day and we grabbed some hot chocolate from Dutch Bros on our way out. We then drove to Pioneer Park and hiked the narrows. Holding hot chocolate while hiking was quite difficult but we made it through and I only spilled on my hands once. We then went up to the top of Dixie rock and wrapped up in a blanket while finishing our no-longer-hot hot cocoa. We talked for a while and then Ty said “I made an app”. Anyone who knows Tyler knows he is going to school for app development at Dixie Tech and he is really good at it. So good, in fact, that he makes apps in his spare time and manages to stay ahead of his entire class. He is always saying “I made an app!” and I am always saying “Of course you did” or “Oh?” So you can picture that’s exactly how this exchange went. He pulled out his phone, opened the app, and handed it to me. It was titled “Our Story”. The app was a timeline of our relationship to the song Meteor Showers by Andy Kong. It would list important dates with what we did and Tyler’s thoughts about each event. Then I would tap and it would show a brief slideshow of pictures of us. At the end, it said 12/3- The Proposal with nothing underneath. Then, he proposed. “Will you marry me?” was the easiest question I have ever answered.
