Laughing Whitefish Falls State Park is a waterfall and state park is located 1 mile from our reception venue. It is definitely worth a stop! There is a semi-flat pathway through the woods to the top of the waterfall, where you can then take several flights of stairs down to the bottom to get the best view.
Blackrocks Brewery is actually where Aubrey and Steve met for the first time in person. If you are a beer-drinker, Blackrocks is for sure worth a stop. They are the little yellow house on the corner and have great outdoor seating.
More for the beer-drinkers, Marquette is full of awesome breweries and Blackrocks and Ore Dock are two of the bride and groom's favorites. They are only a half a mile apart, so anyone who wants to check out both, we more than reccommend.
Lower Harbor is a Marquette icon. Take in Marquette from another angle and see the famous Ore Dock, which is just down from Ore Dock Brewing. Worth the stop and photo op! Next door is a great park with a wooden playground and lots of open space.
Presque Isle Park is a great place to take in the beauty of Lake Superior and its rugged shoreline. There are numerous places to park along the loop to get out an enjoy the lake and nature. The loop is also a nice walk if you are looking for some outdoor exercise.
There are so many great places to eat in Marquette! If you are looking for traditional Yooper fare, a pasty is going to be your must have -- Lawry's Pasty Shop or Cal's Party Store have the best. Other great spots for food are the Portside Inn (get the breadsticks and cheese spread!), Digs (amazing gastro-pub), the Delft, Donkers (for breakfast or lunch), Stucko's, any number of food trucks you see around (they're all amazing), Sol Azteca (mexican), or if you are feeling authentic Thai food, Rice Paddy (just know you have to call ahead and it is takeout only).
There are so many AMAZING waterfalls in the U.P. and many are around Marquette! Some of our favorites just outside of town are Morgan Falls, Dead River Falls, and the various Carp River Falls. Marquette is connected by many excellent trails on which many of these falls are located. If you are feeling adventurous and have an hour or two, Alder Falls (which is about a half hour north towards Big Bay) is a gorgeous waterfall that Aubrey recently dropped her car keys in and had to go swimming to get them back.
