We went on a long weekend trip to Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada to celebrate Brent’s 30th birthday! First, we went ice skating on Lake Louise on a Friday night while viewing ice sculptures and the Canadian Rocky mountains in the background. On Saturday, we trekked 12 miles on the Johnston Canyon Trail where we saw frozen waterfalls and huge icicles. The destination was the Ink Pots and the summit of the trail which was a huge, beautiful landscape that we had all to ourselves! I guess no one else wanted to make the 12 mile ice cleat journey in negative temperatures! After that, we spent some time in the Banff Upper Hot Springs. On Sunday (Brent’s birthday), we took a gondola up to the summit of Sulphur Mountain for a mountain-top-view dinner. When it became dark, we could see downtown Banff lit up. We then went to an Irish bar downtown for a couple drinks and then headed to the ice rink. There was only one other couple skating when we arrived. We skated for a while and I was ready to go, but Brent said we should wait until they leave. After they left, we headed to the covered bench to change out of our skates. Brent offered to take my skates off and put my shoes on. When he was done lacing my shoes, he was already bent down on one knee... and he asked!
