We met at a medical school internship in Fort Worth, the summer after of our sophomore year of college. Myself, the super social individual who wanted to get to know everyone and everything. Andi the independent introvert who liked to play things as professional as possible. I still remember the first thing she told me when she met me. I had just introduced myself to the group as a proud Texas A&M Aggie, and Andi from the back just very confidently says "isn't that a cult?" As the group burst out laughing, I remember seeing the smile on her face. How happy she was with herself, and I'll be honest I couldn't help but smile too. She got me, then and there I was hooked. For the rest of the internship I tried to get close to her. Key word being tried. She wasn't into it at the time, and I had two things working against me. I was an Aggie, and this was an internship. She absolutely refused to be "that" girl. The one who walks into a professional internship, and out with a boyfriend. A year later she would explain this to me, and I'm sad to say she was right. We were just very close that summer, but nothing came of it. So afterwards we tried to keep in touch as friends, but things sort of faded as she went to some school in East Texas. FSA? FFA? Something like that. However, I must have made some impression because almost a year later, out of the blue, I got a text informing me she would be in town for a genetics conference. After talking for a bit we tentatively made plans to hang out. Nothing official, trying to play it cool of course. Then as things would have it, everything fell into place and we met up that weekend. We stayed up until 4 AM, just talking about life. I couldn't help but feel so enamored by her. Everything since then has been history in the making.
