Jennifer and Casey met in 2015 and embarked on a 4-year shared adventure including book publication, paddle-wheeling, climate activism, CFO-ing, traveling to destinations near and far, and merging their circle of friends, family, nieces and nephews. Why Jennifer wants to marry Casey: "Michael Casey is the kindest man I know. Having a partner who always puts the needs & happiness of others first, who brings humor and intelligence to every situation, and who loves with total devotion is one of the greatest joys I've known. He's also one handsome devil, and (true to his Midwestern roots), a lawn-sport CHAMPION." Why Casey wants to marry Jennifer: "Besides being one of the most intelligent, dedicated, fun, and hard-working people I know, Jennifer is also the most passionate. I'm so fortunate to be able to share in that, along with her family, the environment, and anything Jennifer puts her heart into. I want to add as much love into her life as she has into mine."

In March 2019, Casey surprised Jennifer with a stealth proposal while she was visiting family in California. During a beach-bluff outing with her nieces and nephew, Jennifer came across an antique park bench with a plaque engraved with the couple's names, and two YES boxes to be chiseled next to each. Looking up toward the horizon, Jennifer saw Casey walking toward her on the bluffs. He proposed ... and she said yes!
