Can/Should I wear Indian or Western Attire?

Answer

While Indian attire is appropriate for all events, western attire can also be worn. Ultimately, the most important thing is that you're joining us to celebrate! If you would like to purchase/rent Indian attire, and there are no local options available, clothing and accessories can be purchased/rented (in-person or online) at any of the following stores: 1) Fab India (one-stop-shop for quality Indian clothing, similar to a Nordstrom in terms of providing clothing appropriate for weddings). 2) Jaypore 3) Neeru's 4) Manyavar (one-stop-shop for all events) 5) Pernia's Pop-Up 6) Ekaya 7) Other Options - For women's Kanjivaram (traditional Telugu) sarees for the Pelli (Wedding), several saree stores are also available: a) Sai Kanchi b) Kankatala c) Kalanjali d) Radha Krishna 8) Indian clothing rental: Renttherunway, Preserve Rent, Nuuly, My Almari, 9) Footwear brands - Needle Dust, Fizzy Goblet, Aparajita Toor and 5 Elements. 10) Jewelry brands - Paisley Pop Up, Anu Merton, Dotaara, Vamika We have also included FAQs below about Indian clothing for each event to help explain the appropriate type of Indian clothes for each event. If you prefer to wear western attire, please keep in mind that South India is quite conservative. So, for women, covered shoulders/back/front and knee-length dresses are appropriate. For men, slacks and a button-down shirt are appropriate and a suit can be worn to the wedding ceremony.

What to wear to the haldi/pellikuturu/pellikoduku event?

Answer

Generally, bright shades like pink, yellow and green are preferred for these events. Women opt for kurtis, shararas, anarkalis or sarees and men opt for kurtas.

What to wear for the qawwali and mehendi event?

Answer

Jewel tones (i.e. ruby red, emerald green, sapphire blue and the like would be appropriate for this event). Younger women generally opt for legengas or shararas and older women opt for kurtis or sarees. Men usually go for sherwanis or bandhgalas.

What to wear to the wedding night?

Answer

Kanjivaram sarees are commonly worn by women attending Telugu weddings. We have listed popular stores above for these sarees. Men opt for kurtas with nehru jackets or suit/blazer with shirt and trousers.

For the Pelli (Wedding), please avoid wearing white, red, black, or dark shades of any colors.

Are the events indoor or outdoor?

Answer

All the events are outdoor, except for the vratam which will be indoors.

Is there phone and internet coverage in Hyderabad?

Answer

Almost all hotels have WiFi, but for connectivity while you are roaming around, we recommend picking up a SIM card from the airport or arranging for an international data plan before leaving your country of origin (this is the better option!).

What is the best way to get around?

Answer

Uber is widely available and recommended. Taj Hotels generally have cars available for hire as well.

Is it important to be on time for each event?

Answer

1) FYI, events in India generally start 30-45 minutes later than scheduled time, so feel free to come a bit later if you would like! 2) Indian wedding ceremonies (pelli) are generally long and usually go on for 3-4 hours, so folks are free to move around and eat and drink as they please.
