January of 2004, a tall, goofy boy was set to enter Mrs. Bailey's classroom at East End Elementary. The room was abuzz with the news of the reception of a new classmate. The bell rings. In comes long-necked, shirt-tucked, Travis Jensen. Fielding stares from the crowd and trying to decipher the murmurs of the new classmates, Travis' nerves were paralyzing. His heart raced and his palms were sweating. Travis scanned the room, and just like that, his eyes locked on the beautiful, brown eyes of Ashton Simonette. Soon all the noise and commotion of the classroom vanished. Travis was captivated by the gorgeous girl in front of him. It was then and there that he fell deeply in love with the girl in the back of the classroom.
Christmas time was rolling around, and in typical fashion, Travis had no idea how to convey his love for Ashton. As the clock to Christmas wound down, genius struck! Ashton opened her gift, and instead of finding jewelry, shoes, or some arbitrary last minute gift, she found four tickets. Ashton looks up with tears welling up in her eyes. "Are you kidding me," she asked in either sheer terror or awe. Travis wasn't really sure how to translate the body language and tone. We soon agreed that the tears and disbelief were out of joy. "We're going to France, and we're going to see the US Women's National Team in the World Cup!" That June, Ashton and Travis headed to the airport to fly to Europe. Time was limited, so they made the most of their time exploring Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, and Reims in a whirlwind of sightseeing. Day four brought Ashton and Travis to Reims for the World Cup match. Excitement abounded throughout the small French city with the buzz of hosting a match. Ashton and Travis decided there was only one way to pregame this magnanimous event - a Champagne tour! Off to Lanson Champagne House went Travis and Ashton. Little did she know, Travis had slipped a small diamond ring in his belongings prior to venturing across the Atlantic. This ring now sat unsecured, loosely in his pocket. They arrived at the pristine gates of Lanson Champagne House. Ashton was excited to drink champagne. Travis was petrified he would lose the ring, and that he was at the venue at which he would pop the question. Travis missed every word of the beautiful French accent describing the intricate processes of making champagne, thinking intently on the proposal. They reached the vineyard. This was it. Hand on the ring, Travis was about to take that knee. Then he decided this wasn’t the place. They had one more stop. There they were. In front of the Notre Dame Cathedral of Reims. Travis enlisted a random photographer, and the rest is history!
