Things To Do
Downtown Mall
A pedestrian mall that has over 120 shops, 30 restaurants/bars, and a movie theatre housed in historic buildings along a 7 block area of tree-lined and brick-paved streets. Convenient parking in nearby parking garages or parking lots. Short walk from hotels and/or very easy to get Ubers.
The Rotunda
Visit the place where it all began. Arthur and I met while at the University of Virginia in the Fall of 2013. Take a walk around The Lawn, Rotunda and The Corner - the grounds are beautiful this time of year!
Thomas Jefferson's Monticello
Take a guided tour or walk around the home and grounds of Thomas Jefferson. You can find more information about their tours on their website.
Carter Mountain Orchard
Built in 1974, Carter's Mountain is an old apple barn that offers various things to do. You can go apple picking, enjoy some shopping in their Country Store and Bakery, or sip on some delicious Bold Rock Cider or Prince Michel Wine with a beautiful view of Charlottesville. Don't forget to try their apple cider donuts!
The Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia
The museum has a collection of 13,000 art objects dating from ancient times up until the present.
James Monroe's Highland
The home of James Monroe, the fifth President of the United States. Situated adjacent to Monticello. Monroe purchased the property in 1793 and sold the property in 1825. Today, the 535-acre property is a working farm, a venue for performances, and a museum
Birdwood Golf Course at Boar's Head
A 500-acre golf course found at the foot of the famous Blue Ridge Mountains. Originally an area of wilderness in Virginia colony in 1739, the land was purchased by the University of Virginia in 1974 and then turned into an award-winning golf course. one of the area’s best golf courses and the home of the university’s men’s and women’s golf teams.
Blackrock Summit
The Murray family's favorite spot to hike and have a picnic. A short hike up the Appalachain Trail will take you to a spot filled with huge black rocks and a magnificent view. Grab a sandwich from Bellair Market (in Charlottesville) before heading on the hike, and have a picnic up on the rocks!
