We met how most people do. I (Ashlee) was at the ball to meet the handsomest prince in the land. The clock struck midnight, and I needed to run home to let my dog out. I’m very clumsy and lost my glass slipper. Robert scoured the land searching for the girl who wore a size 8 shoe, which is a very common size, and it took him years and years until he finally made a dating profile on Hinge and found me! Well, that much is true. We had our first date in February 2022, and the rest has been history. I became a squatter by September, and since I’m the only one with court experience, he hasn’t figured out how to evict me yet. In December 2024, we got engaged on a Wednesday night in our backyard. I traded the glass slipper for his tennis shoes as he told me the camera out back wasn’t working. He proposed, and I said yes (duh), and we quickly planned every detail for 4-25-26. In March 2025, our lives took a huge turn when Robert was diagnosed with cancer. Through the doctor’s appointments, surgeries, and fear of the unknown, the one thing we knew for sure was that we wanted to be married. So, we did it, just a year early on 4-25-25, at the court where I work, with two weeks' notice, a dress bought the night before, and surrounded by our family. We already had the venue booked, so it only seemed logical to throw one big party to celebrate One Year of Marriage and Robert kicking cancer’s ass!
