Our story begins with Ashraf being… well, Ashraf. One random day in Chicago, he got bored at work and decided to change his Hinge location to New York “just for fun.” Moments later, the very first profile that popped up was Menah—proof that sometimes the algorithm really does know what it’s doing. We chatted a bit, exchanged numbers, and before we even heard each other’s voices, Ashraf sent a completely normal, not-at-all dramatic first text: a photo of his plane ticket to NYC for that weekend. Menah thought, “Who is this man?” and also, somehow, “Okay… I guess this is happening.” We met in New York, survived dinner at Mamo without any awkward silences, and laughed our way through the Comedy Cellar. The next day, we wandered around the Met, talking about our lives, dreams, and how ridiculous it was that this all started with boredom and a location change. By the end of the weekend, we basically knew Ashraf would be racking up airline miles for the foreseeable future in hopes of convincing a woman to spend the rest of her life with him. Fast forward: flights, feelings, falling in love… and eventually, a full-circle proposal back at the Met. And now here we are, ready to get married and spend the rest of our lives side-by-side.
