Welcome Hike

11:00 am - 6:00 pm

If hiking, wear activewear that's breathable and allows you to move freely. Wear a swimsuit with/ under your activewear to dip in the ocean and cool off afterward -- Or bring one to change into! If just attending the beach BBQ, dress for a beach day! (In either case, wear your sunscreen!)

We will plan to meet at the trailhead of Makapu'u Lighthouse Trail and depart on the hike at 11AM (Address: Makapuʻu Lighthouse Rd, Honolulu 96825. The trailhead directly off Kalanianaʻole Highway (Hwy 72). ) This is a paved, 2.5 mile hike that is mostly a gentle uphill walk to the lighthouse view. It's also a great hike for whale watching in March! We anticipate the hike to take about 1.5- 2 hours, after which we'll make our way down to Hunananiho Beach Park (41043 Aloiloi St, Waimanalo 96795). There, we'll grill up some food, eat, swim, play and enjoy each other's company. For those not wishing to hike, feel free to head directly over to Hunanaiho Beach Park anytime after 11AM for our beach bbq. We will plan to hike and have a BBQ rain or shine!

Welcome Beach BBQ

11:30 am - 6:00 pm

Dress for a beach day! And make sure to wear your sunscreen!

Our welcome picnic/ beach bbq will take place about a 12 minute drive from our welcome hike. This beach park is equipped with showers, bathrooms, and gorgeous scenery. In the spirit of Hawaii, we're hosting a potluck-style picnic. We'll have burgers and hot dogs on deck, but if you'd like, please bring a dish to share. We'll have ample water, juice (and a few cases of beer), but make sure to bring your favorite drink -- alcohol or otherwise. If you're bringing food and drink and also hiking with us, we'll have someone at the trailhead ready to bring your goodies to the beach park so they may be stored properly while you're hiking.
