We met on Tinder in December 2020, right in the middle of COVID. An opening line about conspiracy theories led to our first date at Double Schotts, and although our first encounter had a little awkwardness with parking, we laughed about it together. Not long after, staying up talking until five in the morning became a regular occurrence, and looking back we probably should have known then that this was different. From the very beginning, our relationship has been built on a shared sense of adventure, plenty of laughter, and conversations about anything and everything. Our relationship has always moved through what we like to call “eras.” At one point we binged entire series like Game of Thrones, Lost, and pretty much every sci-fi show on Apple TV+. Other times, our go-to was $5 movie Tuesdays or sci-fi marathons—Terminator 2 is a recent favorite. Our hobbies change, but we’re always doing something together, so life is never boring. Travel has been a huge part of our story too, and Airbnb has always been our go-to—30 stays and counting! Our first trip together was to San Diego, staying in the tiniest Airbnb imaginable with no bathroom door and zero privacy. Since then, we’ve upgraded our adventures, from glacier walks in Alaska to the so-called "trails" in Hawaii. Whether we’re navigating a tiny rental, a glacier, or a questionable hiking path, we’ve learned that any adventure is better when we’re in it together! One of our favorite stories is the proposal. It happened on a snowy mountain on the Harding Icefield in Alaska, where we accidentally wandered off trail and were about to turn back when the question was asked. Of course the answer was yes! Afterward, we still had to make it down the mountain, which meant sliding part of the way like kids on a snow day and losing a crampon along the way. The mountain still has custody of it, but we made it down laughing the whole time. Now we can’t wait to get Maui’d, celebrate with our favorite people, and take on marriage as a lifelong adventure together!
