It was spring 2011 at Texas Southern University, I walked in my computer science class and saw a young man staring me down. I didn't think anything of it. I was talking to one of my classmates about our assignment when the guy tapped me on the shoulder and asked me for some help. I went over to help him out, but instead he stopped and he asked for my number. I gave him my number and that afternoon he texted. We texted back-and-forth for a few days and a couple of days later he asked me if I wanted to go to lunch. I said, “Yeah… OK cool.” He responded with, “Bring $10.” Who does that?! LOL! But, once school started back we were what you might call “texting buddies.” We would text and hang out as friends. Nothing serious transpired until October 2011. By then we were inseparable, so we made it official. During that time he was flying to Fort Worth visiting me during holidays and summers. We were that IT couple. #couple goals. Of course we had ups and downs, like when he left and moved to Vegas. However, that didn’t break our bond and we’ve been rockin’ from then on!
On December 23, my family decided to go see Christmas lights. Leonard had been talking about how he wanted to go see these Christmas lights in Grand Prairie. He made it a big thing; he even had his mom and sister come down. That day was oddly strange because my mom was sick as a dog and she still wanted to go. And Jonathon, who never goes to anything left from hanging with his friends to come see the lights and he never does that. My aunt Tracy even tagged along, but she always does so maybe that’s why I didn’t pick up on the clues. The light show was so long that they had a concession area before getting towards the end. We stopped to get hot chocolate and a bite to eat. They had an additional light show where you could walk and take pictures of the lights. Leonard was so eager to go in there he offered to pay for everyone to walk through. Being the cheap person I am he had to convince me that it would be a good idea for us to experience that part of the show. We paid our tickets to get into an area where you could take pictures. Once we entered, everybody grabbed their phones which should have given it away, but I was so caught up on how expensive it was I didn’t pay them any attention. First we took a family picture (me, Leonard and Rilynn). Then he wanted a separate picture with just me and him…next thing I know Dude was down on one knee! A crowd swarmed around us like we were the honey and they were the bees! It was a magical moment. I said YES and now I’m on my way to being Mrs. Ashlyn Moon ... Put some respect on my last name.
