It was a fateful night in August of 2020 when Josh, working as a new fellow in the pediatric emergency room, looked up and saw a beautiful medical student with kind eyes and a gorgeous smile. No, it wasn’t quite like a medical drama series, since the beauty that Josh was looking at was actually a new match on the “Hinge” dating app. Even more intriguing was that Ashlyn’s profile was headlined by a phrase declaring herself “a future pediatrician.” Suffice to say, Josh had a bit of a hard time paying attention to his patients for the rest of the shift. After stops in Orange County, Grenada, and Miami, Ashlyn found herself in New York for her medical school rotations. While Josh’s journey was restricted to the tristate area, he was open to traveling from the Upper West Side to the wilderness of Brooklyn the next day to take Ashlyn out on their first date. Their date consisted of great Israeli food, nonstop conversation, and even Ashlyn mistaking a patch of grey hair on Josh’s head for a feather. It wouldn’t be long before they both realized they had found their person, and a year and a half into dating, they found themselves at Miss Ada, the same restaurant at which they had their first date.

Just as Miss Ada in Brooklyn served as the location of Ashlyn and Josh’s first date, it was only fitting that it became the place where the couple committed to each other for life. Assisted by a creative mother and sister, and 4 straight overnights in the neonatal ICU for Ashlyn, Josh was able to set up a private display of flowers and pictures of the couple in the restaurant’s outdoor garden. Despite the very obvious tell of Josh wearing a sports coat to what was supposed to be a simple date night, Ashlyn was surprised to walk in to the romantic set up - so surprised in fact that it took her walking up to the display and seeing pictures of herself to realize that she was about to be proposed to. Josh got down on one knee and proposed to Ashlyn, and after a video chat call with Ashlyn’s mother and grandmother, Ashlyn was then surprised by the arrival of Josh’s family and Ashlyn’s father, who had flown in from California to celebrate the engagement. The couple enjoyed a hearty dinner with their family, and then were able to celebrate with more family and friends that night at a l’chaim.
