Dear reader, For most of you, Greyson and Ashlyn’s story probably starts in high school, but for me, it starts long before that. And while many of you have been hearing about this wedding for the past few months, I have had the pleasure of listening to Grey talk about this day for over a decade. It all started in the eighth grade, when Grey would come home rambling about some girl named Ashlyn Martinez—who he confidently claimed was going to be his wife one day. As much I would like to say that I had confidence in the texts that he was sending from his bright red flip phone (we weren’t allowed to have iPhones yet) or the Instagram DMs that he was firing off from his iPad, I’d be lying if I said I thought his junior high crush would actually go anywhere. Fast forward to Grey and I’s senior year of high school (Ashlyn’s junior year), when I had biology with her—and luckily for Ashlyn, her assigned seat was next to mine! First hour quickly became a running commentary of my brother’s cheesy pick-up lines and very persistent attempts to pursue her. To make things even better, he even asked her to prom that year… and she said no! But somehow—through persistence, (over)confidence, and what I can only assume was a major improvement in strategy—it eventually worked. After five years of an ambitious chase, Ashlyn finally said yes to being his girlfriend, and now, after seven years of dating, she will finally say yes to being his wife. Watching their relationship grow over the years has been one of those things that sneaks up on you. One minute it’s high school dating, and the next, my obnoxious, stinky brother is asking for my opinion on diamond rings. Through college, new jobs, and everything in between, they have stuck by each other and built something that feels steady, genuine, and certain. It has been a privilege to watch them grow—not only as a couple, but as individuals through each phase of life—and I am so excited to see what this next chapter brings. Ashlyn, we are so lucky that you chose him, and Grey… I guess your eighth-grade self knew what he was doing after all. I couldn’t be happier for the both of you. --Landyn Froberg (the better twin)
