Gabe and Ashlyn met on the soccer field where they quickly became enemies due to their competitive nature. They went head-to-head often as Gabe was a defender and Ashlyn played right wing. Smack talk comes with the game, but there was one day where Gabe crossed the line by asking Ashlyn if she knew what number was on her back (#10 for Messi of course) and told her she better start playing like it. Ashlyn went home talking about how much she disliked "that Gabe Turner" and wanted nothing to do with him. Fastforward a couple of years and Ashlyn started to attend the same homeschool group Gabe was in. She grew the biggest crush on him during their 7th grade year and they were good friends by their Freshman year. They had a great core group of friends and would hang out a lot (Gabe not knowing Ashlyn's feelings this entire time). They served on the Student Council together, planned a school formal, went to Disney's Grad Nite, took many trips to Six Flags, and even ended up playing soccer alongside each other on a co-ed team of all their friends. Going into their Junior year, Ashlyn's family moved away to Idaho. Gabe and Ashlyn kept in contact by texting every once in a while, but it wasn't until a year after they had both graduated high school that Ashlyn reached out to congratulate Gabe on earning his NREMT certification and their story truly began. They started texting daily and sending podcasts back and forth to listen to. Gabe decided to take it to the next level and start calling to discuss what they were learning. By December 2021, Gabe was in Idaho visiting Ashlyn and asked her parents if he could date their daughter. They began their long-distance relationship and would travel to see each other every two months. On Gabe's trip to Idaho in September, he asked Mr. and Mrs. Steffensen for their daughter's hand in marriage. He then pulled off a surprise proposal on October 28, 2022 and now we are here! God's timing is the greatest timing and the two could not be more eager to see where the Lord leads them in their future together.
