We met online actually. We were both on Facebook Dating and swiped right. We decided to meet each other that very same day and get to know one another. We had an amazing time. We met at a public area and decided to go to breakfast. Will was not familiar with the area of Colorado Springs, so I suggested we go to Mountain Shadows, a local eatery in Old Colorado City. He agreed and we shared the first of many delightful breakfasts to come. Next on our list was to go on a walk and enjoy being outside. It was winter and had snowed a lot a couple days before and we decided to go walk around Fox Run Park. We were the only ones in a 10-acre radius and it was so quiet, all we could hear were the crunching of our feet against the snow and our conversations. We were approaching a group of trees and we noticed one was completely bare; no leaves or branches and was quite curvy and twisty. There was a plaque underneath it which told the story of how this particular tree was struck by lightning. After learning about the tree, Will and I admired the thick snow covered trees and we shared our first kiss. Who knew ten months later he'd ask me to marry him?
Our first date followed soon after our first meeting. This was all pre-COVID-19 so life was normal then. We decided to go out to eat to The Cheesecake Factory located in Downtown Denver. I had never been to Downtown Denver and there is a first time for everything, so Will had to take me and show me around. We decided to not drive by car but to take the city metro instead. What a regret that turned out to be. We ended up stopping several times over an hour and we didn't arrive to the restaurant until an hour and a half later. No worries, we still made it on time to eat. We had an amazing dinner followed by random conversation, laughs, flirting and overall the beginning of an amazing emotional connection. Will felt so connected, he took a napkin from the restaurant as a keepsake. After dinner, Will had an amazing surprise planned. It was a "night of firsts" he said. We walked a few blocks and found this empty space where a horse-drawn carriage should have been. However, it was not there and never actually showed up that night. It was okay, the night was perfect anyways, and Will said, "no, I have an idea, I'm going to make this up to you." We then walked several more blocks and came up to the Denver Capital building in the center of the city. He led me to the top of the stairs where a mile-high above sea level marker was engraved in the cobblestone entryway to the building. He wrote on that napkin he kept, and it read, "I will marry you someday, your future husband 2-8-2020, love Will."
It's Christmas time in Denver! Since COVID-19 decided to come into all of our lives shortly after Will and I started dating, our routines and date nights have been conducted accordingly. However, that doesn't mean you can't make a proposal special. Will and I made our way to the Denver Capital building once more, but not for what I thought. We celebrated our 10-month anniversary and we love Downtown Denver and Christmas. We went on a city walk to see the way Denver decorated for the holidays and it was beautiful. City Hall was decorated as well as its lawn with lights covering the trees. We took a few pictures atop the Capital Building steps and then a second later, Will dropped to his knee and immediately asked, "Will you marry me?" I excitedly said, "Yes! Yes!" I had tears streaming down my cheeks and was so overwhelmed with happiness. He then handed me a beautiful letter he wrote the day he received the engagement ring. It was amazing, intimate and I couldn't have asked for better. We ended the night with fajitas and looking at Christmas lights around his neighborhood.
