Travel Note
Shrine Mountain Inn is located 2.5 miles off Interstate 70 at Vail Pass (Forest Service Road 712) and 2.7 miles by trail. During the summer month, you can drive directly to the huts via Shrine Pass Road. Vehicle and bicycle access is possible during this time, making it the easiest and most common way to arrive.
Flight
If you are flying in, the closest major airport is Denver International Airport (DIA). From DIA, the drive to Shrine Mountain Huts takes about 2.5–3 hours, depending on traffic and weather. The route takes you west on I-70 through the Rocky Mountains, with beautiful scenery along the way. Car Rentals: Renting a car at DIA is the easiest and most flexible option. You’ll take I-70 West to Vail Pass, then follow Shrine Pass Road (Forest Service Road 712) to the huts. Timing: Mountain traffic can be heavy on weekends, especially heading west from Denver in the afternoons. We recommend planning travel with extra time and, if possible, arriving earlier in the day.
Flight
Traveling to Shrine Mountain Huts via Vail/Eagle County Airport: If you are flying in, the closest airport is Vail/Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE), located about 45 minutes from Vail and just over an hour from Shrine Mountain Huts. Car Rentals: Car rentals are available at the airport. From EGE, take I-70 East toward Vail Pass, then follow Shrine Pass Road (Forest Service Road 712) to the huts. Shuttle Options: Several shuttle companies (including Epic Mountain Express and other local services) operate between EGE, Vail, and Copper Mountain. From either town, it’s about a 30-minute drive to the huts. Timing: Flying into EGE is more convenient than Denver, with less drive time and fewer traffic concerns, but flights are more limited and are typically more expensive. Be sure to book early.
