It was a beautiful 4th of July (Saidrick’s favorite holiday) weekend and I was getting ready to head out to go back home for our annual family reunion. I had been in Baton Rouge now going on 9 years and wasn’t having the best of luck in the dating pool. But it was something about that day. The way the wind was blowing and the sun was shining, I knew then that weekend was going to be great. As I stopped to get gas at a gas station that I frequently used, a man came out of no where. It was Saidrick. I didn’t know him and I never seen him before. But this man it was something about him. Maybe it was his smile or his deep eyes, maybe it was the way he approached me (excuse me I hate to bother you) I think honestly it was his vulnerability his cockiness his boldness or just the pure assurance that he was going to talk to me and no one was going to stand in his way. Whatever it was it stuck out and I wanted more. So I agreed to give him my number and I told myself that I couldn’t call him first, so I waited. But not for long. Saidrick called me maybe 45 minutes later. We talked and text all weekend long and planned a date for when I got back to Baton Rouge. The feeling that I was feeling was like a teenage girl being smitten by this man. I fell for him instantly. It was his intellect and how he talked about me in his future. He knew what he wanted. I saw my future with him immediately. Let’s just say we had our first child in 2015. It’s been a great 8 years but it was a testy one. We both had to learn to compromise and become selfless for our family. I remember shortly before I met Saidrick I prayed for a man who God wanted me to be with. I prayed that when I found him I would know instantly. God answered my prayers. I’m so thankful for that day on 4th of July weekend. Now 8 years later with 3 kids and we celebrate 4th of July now with more meaning than ever.
