The Proposal

7.25.23

When Lyn and I started dating, one thing that was a non negotiable for her was that we eat tacos EVERY Tuesday. Everyone knows the mantra #TacoTuesday; however, I have never met anyone that takes Taco Tuesday as seriously as my baber-cakes. Not only did we have to eat tacos every Tuesday, but the tacos had to come from her favorite taco spot that she had been going to ever since she moved to Dallas. Therefore, Taco Tuesdays become a staple in our relationship and an immediate tradition that we carried out each week. When it came to deciding how I was going to propose, I was stressed. I kept going back and forth between doing something BIG, like hiring a flash mob, or doing something simple while still finding a way to make it special. Then it hit me, I should propose on a Taco Tuesday, DUH!!! Once I narrowed my focus on that, I just had to figure out the logistics. I wanted to do it at our home, but I had to figure out how to make sure Lyn was picture ready, otherwise I wouldn't have heard the end of it. With those thoughts in mind, operation "propose to Lyn on a Taco Tuesday while making sure she looked good all while keeping it a surprise" went into full effect. First, I stole one of her dresses and took it to be dry cleaned. Then I ordered rose petals, candles, and bandanas for the bubbies. At this point I am making moves undetected and feeling good about myself. Everything was going as planned until Lyn decided to be stubborn about getting her nails done. I offered for us to go together and reached out to a friend and she turned us both down (#rude). So in order to protect the surprise, I gave up on the nails and resorted to plan B. On the day of the proposal, I left for work cool, calm, and collected like it was any other day. I pretended to do work all day and before heading home, stopped to pick up my last few items for my proposal production. I grabbed some nail polish and press-on nails (as a result of her stubbornness), along with 5 dozen roses, and picked up her dress from the dry cleaner. Normally, I pick up the tacos on my way home from work. But this time, I called on my way home saying I had a headache and just wanted to go straight home. This is when my nerves started kicking in. Would she know something was up because I didn't pick up the tacos? Would she refuse to go get the tacos because she hates me? Would she greet me at the door like we were in some romantic movie and blow my cover with 5 dozen roses in the car? So many possibilities to ruin my plans. BUT when I got home I was able to quickly hide the dress and the roses, go lay down due to my "headache", and she left to go get the tacos. Then BOOM, I sprang into action! I ran around the house frantically throwing rose petals, setting up the roses, and lighting candles. I put a table in front of the door, placed some instructions, and went hid in another room with the boys. The instructions read: 1. GO STRAIGHT TO OUR BEDROOM a. DO NOT COME LOOKING FOR ME OR THE BOYS b. DO NOT PASS GO c. DO NOT COLLECT $200 d. GO STRAIGHT TO THE BEDROOM, NO QUESTIONS ASKED 2. TAKE ALL THE TIME YOU NEED TO GET YOURSELF TOGETHER a. TAKE A SHOWER (OPTIONAL) b. PUT ON YOUR MAKE UP (OPTIONAL) c. PAINT YOUR NAILS (OPTIONAL) d. PUT ON YOUR DESIGNATED DRESS (NOT OPTIONAL) 3. TEXT ME THESE EXACT WORDS "I AM READY FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE" 4. UPON MY RESPONSE, MEET ME IN THE LIVING ROOM Once Lyn was done getting ready, which felt like a lifetime (a.k.a 15 mins). Myself, and the boys, were waiting for her in the living room ready to officially propose. It was a win win for everyone. My plan went smoothly, she was surprised, and she looked absolutely beautiful. And yes, the first thing we did after the proposal was eat our tacos :) Because you know what they say, the only things that are guaranteed in life is death, taxes, and that we are going to eat tacos from La Banqueta on Tuesdays! *Pictures and videos from the proposal in the gallery section
