It was a lazy Saturday night, and I had just finished up a long week of work and had no intentions of going out. My friends had other plans and dragged me out to Coppersmith, a local Southie bar. As I walked in, I noticed the place was packed. I squeezed my way to the bar and ordered a drink, trying my best not to spill it as people bumped into me left and right. That's when I saw her. She was standing at a table with a group of friends, laughing and chatting away. I couldn't take my eyes off of her. I mustered up the courage to approach her and introduced myself. “Hey, is your name Ashley?”… Looking back, probably not the best opener, but the result speaks for itself. We hit it off immediately, probably fueled by a few too many tequila sodas. As the night went on, we discovered that we had a lot in common and exchanged numbers before we said our goodbyes. Over the next few weeks, we went on several dates and continued to get to know each other. Taco Tuesday, a homemade meal by the water and lots of laughs to go around. But then one day, we heard the sad news: Coppersmith was shutting down. We were devastated. It was the place where we met, where we shared our first laughs, brunched with our friends and where I begrudgingly became a Boston sports fan (except for the Pats). And that's how we met. The bar may be gone, but now we have the rest of our lives to discover our next favorite spot with the friends and family we care about the most.
After four years of dating and two years of waiting due to Covid, the famous Wellfleet Oyster Fest had finally been scheduled to take place in the fall, and Ashley was beyond excited for the great food, music, and drinks. Little did she know, Oyster Fest was just a planned excuse for a bigger surprise. Kevin had coordinated with all of their friends, near and far, to spend the weekend in Truro, just a few miles away from the festival. Ashley was thrilled to spend time with their closest friends and just have a true Cape Cod summer close at the festival, but little did she know that Kevin had something even more exciting planned. October 15th, Kevin was a ball of nerves as he had been hiding the ring for quite some time. He had meticulously planned the proposal on the beach she spent all her Summers, but Ashley was taking her sweet time getting ready with the girls. Anxious and eager, Kevin was pushing her to hurry up so they could make it to the beach. Ashley kept questioning him why it was so important to go to a beach they had spent countless days on. Kevin, kept using his friend Adam as an excuse, telling her “Adam wants to use his drone and camera to get panoramic pictures of the beach.” Kevin’s biggest concern was how he would pull this off, while Ashley’s was her freshly blow-dried hair would get frizzy from the rain. He finally convinced her to get in the car, and Kevin, Adam, and Ashley drove to Ballston Beach. As they were walking up the beach, Ashley Spotted a bench with a bouquet of flowers, and Adam started snapping photos. That when she looked to Kevin who was emotional as he got down on one knee and asked Ashley to be his forever. . .what he actually said, neither of us knows. We both were overcome by emotion and just laugh at how we completely blacked out at the exact moment. Every once in a while, Ashley will ask Kevin to re-propose to reenact that special day, October 15th, 2022.
