Ashley and Judson’s story began in 2019 at Widener University in Howell Hall — a dorm technically reserved for engineering students. Somehow, by cosmic mistake (or fate’s sense of humor), Ashley and her roommate, both nursing students, were placed there too. Ashley lived on the second floor, Judson on the first, and yet their paths kept crossing. Judson, an engineering student, couldn’t resist making witty comments whenever they bumped into each other in the hallways. Between laughs, eye-rolls, and awkward small talk, a friendship sparked — one that was equal parts teasing and genuine connection. Then came Valentine’s Day, and Judson decided to go big. Instead of a traditional bouquet, he showed up at Ashley’s dorm room with a jar of pickles pierced by a single rose and asked if she’d go on a date with him, knowing that Ashley's favorite snack is pickles. Ashley, naturally, said yes — because who could resist that level of creativity (or that charm)? Their first date was at Café Isla in Media, PA, and on March 2nd, 2020, they officially became a couple. Just two weeks later, COVID-19 hit. But nothing, not even a global pandemic, could stop them. They survived long-distance with FaceTime marathons, socially distanced walks in New Hope, PA — a halfway point where they could safely meet — and more laughter than anyone thought possible. From accidental dorm encounters to pickle-rose romance to pandemic-proof love, Ashley and Judson have been inseparable ever since. They’ve learned that the secret to a lasting relationship is laughter, friendship, and the ability to accept that even a jar of pickles can be the most romantic gesture in the world.
