Jonathan and Ashley met briefly in junior high school and did not actually notice each other until high school, while Jonathan was walking to Spanish class and Ashley to French class. From there, they met up with friends for their first ‘date’ at Fright Fest. After about a year, Jonathan wrote Ashley a note asking her to be his girlfriend (yeah you read that right). After graduation, Ashley and Jonathan moved in together, attending Saint Martin’s University in Lacey, WA. Ashley and Jonathan then attended graduate school at separate UW campuses. After graduation, Ashley and Jonathan both began working and saving up to purchase their first home together!

While completing his practical in Maui, Ashley flew out to see Jonathan after months apart. Jonathan told Ashley to get ready to go to his favorite beach, followed by breakfast. Ashley suspected nothing, as this was of all days, Jonathan’s birthday. So that morning (late as usual), Jonathan and Ashley headed to Keawakapu Beach. Jonathan showed Ashley around and insisted on practicing his new photography skills. While Ashley faced the ocean, Jonathan got on one knee and Ashley turned around, in shock. Unfortunately Jonathan had to ask the question twice as Ashley stood there in disbelief (maybe she wanted to make him sweat after he waited ten years to propose? Who knows…) Once Ashley could manage the word yes, they were joined by friends and a wonderful photographer and the rest was history.
