Joel and I met on the evening of the 4th of July six years ago. Neither of us had planned to go out that night. I was at a restaurant with my friend and in walks Joel. We immediately notice each other as he sits in a booth across from us. We exchanged a few glances but nothing more. After dinner my friend and I decided in that moment to go out a bar. Later that night at said bar I see a familiar face...you guessed it, Joel. We ended up spur of the moment going to the same place yet again. Eventually his friend came up to talk to us but Joel was nowhere to be found. I was on a mission to meet Joel so we went looking for him and found him outside. I walked over and said hi (totally unlike me) and immediately we both felt a connection. We both say it was love at first sight and the rest is history.
Joel insisted we go on a weekend getaway before Christmas so he decided on St. Augustine. St. Augustine was the first vacation we ever took together six years ago. He decided to take on all the planning. We popped some champagne in the hotel room before we took an uber to get dinner. We passed by the Flagler College all lit up in sparkling lights. We had some time before dinner so I suggested we go back and walk through those lights we saw. Joel wanted to go someplace else but eventually agreed. We walked through the lights, just the two of us, no one else was around. We went into a pavilion to take some photos. Joel said he was tipsy from the champagne and “accidentally” dropped his phone. We both were laughing. He went down to pick it up and then got on his knee and pulled out a ring. He said a beautiful speech I’m sure but I can’t remember much I was too caught up in all the emotions of everything. I didn't know where to keep looking, him, the ring, him, the ring. I finally asked “What do I do?” And he replied “Say yes!” I of course said yes and put that gorgeous ring on. We spent the next day celebrating our engagement around town in St Augustine.
