It was May of 2010, my cousins wanted to go to a party. We were squeezing through everyone to find an empty spot when I noticed this one quiet girl who looked so familiar, I had to talk to her. I grew the courage to ask her to dance but got denied. Eventually, someone pushed her towards me so I grabbed her & we danced the whole night. As amazing as the night was going, my cousins wanted to leave so I asked for her number. She grabbed my phone, saved herself as Ashley & that’s when it hit me. This was the girl that ignored my message on Facebook. Regardless, I couldn’t get her off my mind. I contemplated if I should wait to text her so the stars must have aligned that night because I picked up my phone & dialed her number. The phone rang for so long, I was preparing myself for rejection but the moment she answered & I heard her voice I knew I made the right decision to call. Her version went a little different than mine. My friend threw a party & I wasn’t much of a party girl. People kept talking about this boy coming, he was the highlight of everyone’s conversation. I asked my friend who is this “Jerry” kid, she pointed to him. Let me tell you when I saw him from a distance, I forgot there were so many people around me. But, you know I had to act cool, uninterested. I just made sure I was always around him instead of mingling with everyone else. He stood by the DJ the whole night. I sat there and remember thinking I was pretty much stalking him LOL. He asked me to dance, my heart was pounding so fast but I said no. My friend threw me off the couch & instantly Jerry grabbed my hands, we danced all night long, we exchanged numbers but he left a little early. I thought I would never hear from him again. Little did I know he would call me that same exact night, I was screaming of excitement. I let the phone ring for a while, I didn’t know what to do. My friend took my phone, picked up the call & handed it to me. We spoke every night since until the crack of dawn.
Seven years of being in a relationship with one anotherHe finally asked me to marry him. It completely felt like a fairy tale. High school sweet hearts really do exist. We were going to his “employees baby shower” when he opened the door and I saw all of our family and friends, I froze. He dragged me to the middle of the dance floor , everyone had their phones out recording. The second I saw him bend down on one knee I couldn’t help but cry , I said YESSSSSSSSS ! As the night ended and we were in the car heading back home. He told me, he was so nervous and thought about this day for such a long time. I couldn’t stop staring at him with butterflies in my stomach thinking to my self I’m going to be marrying my best friend.
