An Undaunted I DO

August 3rd, 2019

There are no unlockable doors There are no unwinnable wars There are no unbeatable odds Or unsingable songs I don’t ask much I just want you. Our friend Ozzy blared his advice through my phone which was lazily propped up on some rough rocks forming a makeshift fire ring we had stumbled across while exploring the Mogollon Rim. We liked to think this was our secret spot on the cliffs, the evidence of other campers long since faded. We had trekked over unnumbered forest roads and steep rocks to find it. Wild flowers were scattered around us, their orange, purple, and red colors were vibrant next to the pale green of the grass. The buzzing hummingbirds enjoyed the flowers almost more than we did. We both looked out over the high precipice, able to see over the entire valley for miles. A thunderstorm was making its way across the Star Valley, the thunderous grey clouds mingled with the soft pink wisps of sunset. Lightning lanced across the sky impressively. I realized Harley was looking at me and not the glorious scene in front of us. It was then, as the cool winds of the coming monsoon began to sneak through the pine trees, that he knelt next to me and offered to share his life with mine. We would share any adventure, trial, and success with each other. We were as the thunderstorm, ready to start our own life together undaunted and ready to conquer whatever life could throw at us, hand in hand.
