Like many couples these days we met through a dating app, but for us it actually took 2 dating apps and a few months for us to finally get together... The weekend of the 4th of July in 2016 I was house sitting for a coworker at Folly Beach and had invited a group of my girlfriends down in what I thought would be a last hoorah in Charleston as I was planning to move to Charlotte that fall. Gil and I had been messaging that weekend and on the 4th he asked what I had planned for the day and I told him my friends and I were headed to the beach and he was welcome to join, never thinking in a million years he'd be brave enough to do so. Gil showed up and we spent the afternoon chatting which is when he brought up that we had chatted months before on a different dating app and I had no idea we had talked before. My friends left to head back to NC and Gil offered to make me dinner that night at his apartment to which I cautiously agreed, making sure I sent my location to the group chat in case I went missing. I survived, had a wonderful time and we spent the next month seeing each other. Then I got the call that I had been offered the job in Charlotte I had interviewed for before we met so I was stuck with one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make, do I move to the city I loved with so many of my friends like I had planned or take a chance on this guy I had just met? I was so heartbroken at the thought of leaving Gil I knew I couldn't picture my life without him and had to take a chance to see where things would go. Almost 4 years and 2 dogs later I'm so happy I took that chance!
