The journey began at Bluemont Vineyard in 2019, standing outside the tasting room with 360 views of Northern Virginia, Edward's (Alex) glass of Petit Manseng had almost run dry. Alex decided to find a new bottle of white, but his journey was stalled when he saw Ashley standing in front of the wine bar with her friends from Passion City Church DC. As an icebreaker he decided to ask her where he could purchase a bottle right in front of the bar. Ashley laughed as they spent the remainder of the afternoon recounting her travel to the Parliament of Canada during her time as a staffer in the White House. Alex told her stories of the many challenges when teaching middle school kids how to code computers and impressed her with a night of Louisiana Cajun Dinner, Bird Scooter-riding and traversing the traffic circles of Northwest Washington, D.C. Ashley has described the first night of meeting Alex as "coming home" and Alex told Ashley's mother that he knew she was the one the moment he laid eyes on her. The two have been inseparable ever since that fated first meeting. From road trips across the country to Colorado, Harry Potter marathons with Great Hall inspired eats and guitar duets, Ashley and Alex are each other's rocks through the highs and lows. Alex popped the question in front of the lighthouse at Barnegat Light in Long Beach Island, NJ. The spot is one of his favorites and where his family would spend summer vacations each year while he was growing up.
