Our souls met on April 4th, 2008. We were attending a church retreat. She was a 15 year old sophomore with huge braids and I was a scrawny 14 year freshman with a big head. Initially when we linked eyes we were mutually impressed but also equally shy. I eventually initiated conversation but only because we shared a mutual friend. We quickly clicked, so after the retreat we were basically "talking". However, I thought I was a player and was very shallow, so shortly after I stopped talking to her because she had a bad haircut, which she had no idea that was the reason why. Fast-forward to 4 years later we reconnected in college, exchanged numbers and started to text each other, but since I wanted to be like Eddie Murphy from Boomerang, this chapter of the story ended the same as before.
On the day of the 52nd Superbowl, February 4, 2018, we reconnected for the final time. She noticed that I was commenting on her pictures and felt like I was trying to play her again. Since Tamani-Lachelle told her I may be in a different place and to see why I was commenting she decided to DM me. We soon found out we were going through similar situations because we were both fresh out of toxic relationships. We once again clicked and since then a day hasn’t passed without us speaking to one another. A few months later, in April, I had to rush Ashley to the emergency room and it hit me that I never wanted to lose her and that I wanted to marry her. Surprisingly, I was the first one to say the L-word, but obviously she felt that same way and with tears in her eyes she replied, “I love you too”. Some months later, we were watching Netflix with Cayden and I felt it was the perfect moment to ask Ashley to marry me. Ashley initially thought I was joking but once she realized I was sincere she said "yes" and now here we are.
